Once part of the Mercerville-Hamilton Square census-designated place, Mercerville had become its own municipality after 2010. Mercerville is home to many historical sites found along the path of the Continental Army that was led by George Washington during the American Revolutionary War. Mercerville takes its name after Hugh Mercer, a general of the Continental Army. Well known historic homes in Mercerville, NJ include the Isaac Watson House, the John Abbott House, and the Isaac Pearson House, all built in the early 18th century.
